Epoxy resin in Ireland

Epoxy resin is a two-part liquid plastic that sets hard, glossy and waterproof. At home it goes on worktops, floors, tables and shower walls; at work, on kitchen, shop and factory floors. Small pieces are a fine DIY job. Anything you walk on, cook on or shower against is one for a specialist: tell us yours and one local specialist rings you with a price.

Free, no obligation. One local resin specialist prices it, not five.

One for a specialist

  • It's one pour over the whole worktop: level, edges and sink cut-outs have to be right first time.
  • It needs a warm room (24 to 30°C is ideal) for the first day, and about a week before full use.
  • Most table-top epoxies start to soften at 38 to 54°C, so it's a surface for trivets, not hot pans.

A poured epoxy worktop: about €540 to €840 a m². A resin coat over your existing worktop: about €300 to €480 a m².

How this is worked out

Anything you walk on, cook on or shower against, at any real size, is a specialist job: the preparation, the cure and the waterproofing decide whether it lasts. Small pieces are what DIY kits are made for. Experience moves a borderline job, never a shower wall or a commercial floor. Prices are our price guide; your written price comes from the specialist.

The material

What epoxy resin is, and isn't

Epoxy resin comes as two liquids: the resin and the hardener. Mixed in the right ratio, they react and set into a hard plastic. It doesn't dry: it cures, and that's why the mix, the temperature and the time matter so much.

  • What it's good at. It sticks hard to concrete, timber and stone, it's waterproof, and it can be clear as glass or any colour.
  • What it's bad at. Heat (most table-top epoxies soften at 38 to 54°C), sunlight (it yellows) and skin (uncured, it can cause allergic dermatitis).
  • What it isn't. A resin bound driveway is polyurethane. A shower tray or a factory-made solid surface worktop is usually acrylic. Fibreglass is mostly polyester.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can I do it myself with a kit?

For small pieces, yes: trays, coasters, a shelf, a small tabletop. Anything you walk on, cook on or shower against is a different job. The preparation and the cure decide whether it lasts, and a failed pour has to be scraped or ground off. See DIY or hire a pro.

How much does epoxy resin work cost?

A resin floor costs €30 to €130 a m² fitted. A poured epoxy worktop is about €540 to €840 a m², and a resin coat over the worktop you have about €300 to €480 a m². Jointless shower walls run €60 to €120 a m². See our price guide.

Is epoxy resin safe in a kitchen?

Fully cured, it's a hard, inert plastic. Before that it isn't: it needs about a week at room temperature. Ask for the product's food contact suitability in writing. Since 20 January 2025 the EU has banned BPA in food contact varnishes and coatings. See is epoxy resin food safe.

Can I put a hot pan on it?

No. Most table-top epoxies start to soften at 38 to 54°C. A pan off the hob or a kettle leaves a mark. Use a trivet. See heat resistance.

Will it go yellow?

In time, yes, and sunlight is the main cause. UV stabilisers slow it; they don't stop it. Pale and white colours show it first. See yellowing.

Is a resin driveway epoxy?

No. A resin bound driveway is stone mixed with a UV-stable polyurethane resin, so it doesn't yellow outside and water drains through it. See epoxy vs resin bound.

How long does it last?

A good, thick garage coating lasts about 8 to 10 years. A poured worktop lasts 20 years and more with care. A resin bound driveway lasts 20 to 25 years. See how long epoxy resin lasts.
